Matt East

Coach Matt East will begin his 2nd season as the Assistant Baseball Coach here at East Coweta. Coach East was born and raised in Griffin, GA before moving to LaGrange, GA for his college degree. Matt graduated in 1997 from Griffin High School as a 3 yr letterman in football and baseball. Coach East graduated with a BA in History from LaGrange College where he earned the title of Research Scholar his senior year. On the athletic field, he lettered 4 years in baseball and during his senior year was voted to the All-Great South Athletic Conference team as a second baseman and best
defensive player. As a team his senior year LaGrange College finished ranked 28th in the nation and a perfect 16-0 in Conference play winning the GSAC Championship.

Before coming to East Coweta, Coach East was the Head softball and Head Assistant Baseball coach for 6 years at Spalding High School in Griffin, GA. During his tenure at SHS the baseball team claimed 2 Region 4 AAA championships (2004, 2006), qualified for the state championships in all 6 years and made a final 4 appearance in 2004. As the Head Softball coach for the Jaguars, East compiled a record of 106-47 in 6 season and was awarded the 2008 Coach of the Year award as well as being selected to coach the 2008 All Star Team.

Prior to Spalding High School, Coach East worked at LaGrange College as an Assistant Baseball Coach and Admission Counselor over the areas of Florida and South Carolina.

In addition to his baseball duties Coach East is the assistant softball coach for the 2009 Final 4 sofball team and the 2008 AAAAA State Runner-up Lady Indians, where he was named the 2008 4 AAAAA Assistant Coach of the Year and the 2008 GACA Dugout Club Assistant Coach of the Year. In the classroom, Coach East teaches AP Microeconomics and US History Coach East is thrilled to be an Indian and looks forward in working with the Student-Athletes as well as the community here at ECHS.

Coach East is married to Melissa Brinker of Norcross, GA and they are expecting their first child in March.
